The Tea Cupany’s Oolong Vanilla Review
Hello all. Today I get to start doing what I’ve wanted to do for a while. I wanted to start reviewing the smaller lesser known tea companies to help them out and spread the word about them. I’m excited to say that I will be posting not one, but four different reviews on a variety of The Tea Cupany‘s teas. Today I have their oolong vanilla.
First I want to say that I chose this tea because I really love oolong, and also because I wanted something in between flat out plain, and completely dressed up. By dressed up I mean the fancy blends like you would find at Davids Tea or other stores like it. This is just a nice balance between the two, it’s simple and basic but it’s also slightly different with it’s vanilla flavoring. Anyway, lets get to the review!
The dry leaves smell very very sweet, and a lot like vanilla extract. At first I thought it was going to be a very strong vanilla taste, but I was wrong, once it was brewed it has a very subtle sweet vanilla like flavor to it. I don’t mean creamy, like some other vanilla flavors come across, but more like an actual vanilla bean type taste. It’s very very light and faint though and if i hadn’t been paying attention I don’t know if I would have noticed it at all. Maybe it’s the way I brewed it, I’m not sure(boiled water, steeped for 3.5-4 minutes). As for the oolong part of it, it’s very nutty and toasty, that’s how I describe oolong because I can’t ever find any other words for it. But I love it, if you like earthy teas, this is a good one!
You can resteep this one pretty well, but you get even less vanilla out of it the second go, which is fine because tea itself still has so much flavor left. Overall I would have to give this oolong vanilla a 4 out of 5 for taste, the only reason I think it’s not a 5 out of 5 is because I think the vanilla should be slightly stronger. But it’s definitely worth a try and I hope you’ll head over to The Tea Cupany to see what else they have to offer. =)
If you’ve tried this tea, please let me know! Leave a comment below with your own review. Tune in next week for a review of their Pumpkin Pie tea!
